Just over a week in advance of its HXGN Live user conference, Hexagon has announced its acquisition of AutonomouStuff, a leading supplier of autonomous vehicle hardware and software solutions. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

As to why Hexagon would acquire an autonomous vehicle solution supplier, the company cited AutonomouStuff’s “pioneering” development of robotics and data intelligence as well as its complex, integrated turnkey solutions. Hexagon believes the technology and expertise behind these solutions can be scaled up to help Hexagon to solve the “data impasse of IoT.”

In an official statement, Hexagon president and CEO Ola Rollén explained that AutonomouStuff’s solutions could offer a means for better utilizing the data generated by connected things. He noted that AI, edge-cloud orchestration, mobility, and data visualization technologies are of particular interest as Hexagon works to enable “autonomous connected ecosystems.”

Rollén said that “this acquisition will create a next of domain expertise” for the autonomous mobility industry.
