Checking out the program for the International Symposium on Display Holography this week, it occurred to me that we’ve sort of already seen holography come and go, haven’t we? There was all kinds of buzz in the 1970s and 1980s, but it all seems to have fizzled out, but for the hologram on the credit card in my pocket and on some foreign currency. But, recently, the technology has bubbled up again, and it may be that this time around the world is ready to take advantage of holography’s benefits. Or not.
